This weekend Sarah and I went to Dean Kim's house. It was quite the excursion but the best weekend I've had in a long time. Friday afternoon we all went strawberry picking right before the torrential rains hit. We picked 14 buckets between the five of us. They sold fresh homemade strawberry ice cream that was AMAZING!
Strawberries bring fruit flies so Sarah went on fly patrol...
While we cut and froze Todd and Jessica (Jessica is Todd's daughter from a previous marriage. You'll see a picture of her later.) went to got get some vanilla ice cream to have with the strawberries. They came back with two half gallons of vanilla, one peach, mint chocolate chip, pralienes and cream, and chocolate.... Needless to say I have eaten more strawberries and ice cream this weekend then I think are digestable. Don't worry I didn't try the Pralienes and Cream with strawberries combo.
Kim has TONS of animals. This is Abby who used to be a lot of fun. She was our dorm mascot. Yeah well she's apparently gotten old now at her 7 years and doesn't do much but this.
This is Rosie the psycho who plucks all of her feathers and her boyfriend Harry who likes to say "peak-a-boo and whatcha doin?" But he isn't very friendly. Rosie ate breakfast with us at the table. When she ran out of food she'd yell "HELLO!!" until she got more.
I don't have pictures but the farm includes 5 sheep, 4 more birds, 6 rabbits, 5 ducks, 10 chickens, a sheep dog, Abby, 5 horses, and I think that's it... The sheep were all bottle fed so they follow Kim everywhere. As do most of the animals.
Sabbath afternoon Kim, Sarah, and I went riding.
Sarah is on Brave and I'm on Tony. Brave decided to be a little stupid and ended up bucking Sarah 3 times. But she was amazing and stayed on. Kim took care of that situation rather fast.
So Sarah ended up on Luke and we took off. We did a lot of trail riding. Probably a good 1.5 hrs. The dogs came with us. That's Mac the sheep dog. The dogs ended up extremely gross cause we went along a stream they loved playing in it.
Next came riding in the arena... if I wasn't sore enough. We'd been doing a lot of trotting and Tony has an interesting trot that is hard to post with. So I was a little bruised.
Tony likes to abruptly stop at the gate when he gets tired. Was not very exciting but Kim broke him of that as well. She's so good with horses, all animals for that matter.
I hurt so bad today it's amazing. You wouldn't think riding took so many muscles. I need one of those inflatable doughnuts to sit on and a good massage.
After all the riding we were exhausted. Todd and Jessica had made Haystacks and lemonade which were amazing at that point. (well they would have been anyway but when you're that tired, hot, hungry, it was more then amazing.) Of course there was more strawberries and ice cream. Then we all crashed on the couches. Todd slept the longest even though all he'd been doing was laying out in the sun.... hmmmm.
After feeding all of the animals we ate strawberry shortcake and popcorn and watched Emma while Kim made us three girls PJ's.
Sarah had to be at work this morning so we headed home about 12. Kim gave us more strawberries for the road home. There's probably a trail of strawberry tops from Kim's house to Southern. Note to self, never eat strawberries, drive a stick shift, and have Sarah in the car with you at the same time. With that combination strawberries have a tendency to want to come out your nose and well you can only imagine how that influences driving.
